Mapsplore Social
Mobile Application, Website & Database
As the Covid Pandemic was starting Mapsplore wanted to provide a solution to help people stay safe. As people were tracking Positivity Rates of COVID, Mapslore noticed there was up to a few week delay in public data. Maplsore’s alternative was a population tracker, a way to show you were the highest population densities are which would also show an escalated chance of contracting Covid.

The challenge
Getting things up to spec
Their user’s would need an easy to use platform that can show populations density and allow user reporting of pedestrian traffic.

The database needed for such a solution would need to be able to handle data from an array of sources both public and private data sources. As well as a process to interpret the data and start developing predictive models.
The Solution
A complete redesign
We designed and built an iOS application, website and database, using Amazon Web Services, to handle both the data from the MTA API and the user-generated information from the application’s user interface.

Using data collected via user post and the Metropolitan Transit Authority, users were able to see where dense populations were during the day so that they could chart their course and limit exposure to Covid-19.
The results
Happier customer & users
The Mobile Application accomplished Mapsplore’s needs and went even further to providing pedestrian data useful for other scenarios besides Covid tracking. The database was also able to be accessed via a website, widening the audience able to access the data. Mapsplsore saw steady growth and use during the pandemic.
